OUR VISION

At JACKSON'S WISH, we have a vision of a world where there are more conversations about mental health awareness and suicide prevention for teens. We have a vision of a world where kids feel safe enough to let people know they are struggling. We have a vision of a world where families do not struggle to find help when there is a mental health crisis. We can get there with your help and it would be JACKSON'S WISH.

OUR STORY

WE LOST OUR SON

Our son Jackson lost his life to suicide on March 6, 2021 at age 13.

Jackson was sophisticated well beyond his years. He was a gentle soul who was intuitive about people's emotions; those in a bad place would get his support.

Our son was also an introvert. He built walls so no one could see the pain he was in. And he was so smart, he built those walls of glass so we couldn’t even see them. My wife and I didn’t see it. His sister didn’t see it. His best friends had no idea. Only in the aftermath are we discovering how much pain he was in.

Our wish is to shine a light on mental health and the importance of conversations. We want to help other families avoid the tragedy we are living through. We are rising together with relentless determination to make things better for teens who find themselves in the same position as our son. We believe this would have been JACKSON’S WISH.

THE IMPACT

THE IMPACT OF JACKSON'S WISH

We started JACKSON’S WISH with a simple idea: we wanted to encourage teenagers to talk about mental health. We made specialized coffee mugs, placed them in Trouble Brewing– a local coffee shop in Haddon Heights – and created a simple sign encouraging visitors to check in on someone’s mental health. Anyone can now walk into Trouble Brewing, grab a mug, check in on a friend, no questions asked, and the drinks are on us.

Miraculously, and thankfully, this simple idea already has made a substantial impact. A few months after launch, a Philadelphia doctor told us about a Haddon Heights student who took his mom to Trouble Brewing, used Jackson’s mugs, handed his mom his suicide note and said to her, “Mom, I need help.” This young man ultimately saw the doctor who reached out to us, she credited us for helping to save his life, and suggested that we keep doing what we were doing. That day, we decided to expand our mission.
